A sales funnel is a marketing and customer relationship management (CRM) tool that allows you to identify potential customers’ needs, questions and concerns.
When properly used, a well-defined sales funnel can help you close more deals and improve the overall customer experience.
The sales funnel illustrates the process of moving prospects from an initial awareness of a problem to becoming a paying customer.
Ideally, the goal is to move as many prospective buyers as possible from the top of the sales funnel into the bottom of the funnel where they become a customer.
However, it is impossible to convert every prospect into a sale, so some prospects will drop out along the way.
This is why it is important to define and optimize your sales funnel so that you can make the most of each prospect’s unique journey. A properly defined sales funnel can be an extremely valuable asset for any business.
To do this, you must understand your prospects and their recurring problems, questions and concerns. Then, you can create relevant content that speaks to their specific needs throughout each stage of the sales funnel.
The first stage of the sales funnel is known as the awareness stage or discovery phase. Prospects may enter this stage from a variety of different sources including search engine optimization, social media or even word of mouth.
During the awareness stage, you want to generate interest in your product or service by delivering educational and informational content that addresses the prospects problems and questions.
Once a prospect moves through the awareness and interest stages, they should begin to feel more confident about your solution. During this stage, they are often evaluating your solution against other solutions and comparing pricing and features.
This is a crucial stage and it’s important to make your offer irresistible. The best way to do this is by providing a free trial period, online discount coupon or other incentive.
After the prospect has entered the action stage of the sales funnel, they are ready to purchase your product or service.
This is where your sales team should step in and help the prospect through the final steps of the purchasing process.
This can include arranging demos, webinars and phone conversations.
A sales funnel should be reviewed periodically to ensure that it is working as efficiently as possible.
If you are not seeing the results you expected, you should test and optimize your offering to better reach your audience. For example, if you are generating a lot of traffic from social media but your conversion rate is low, consider increasing the quality of the traffic by running Facebook and Instagram ads that target people most likely to buy your product.
You can also try experimenting with different offers for the action stage, such as free shipping or discounts, to see which ones have the greatest impact on closing your prospects.
With this approach, you can maximize the performance of your sales and marketing efforts and increase
your revenue.
